CareerSafe® Achieves ‘A Million Safer’ Student Milestone

College Station, Texas – Rooted in the belief that no job is worth a young worker’s life, CareerSafe announced they have reached their goal to train their first one million students in workplace safety and cybersecurity. Driven by the desire to contribute to a safe and healthy workplace for the approximately 19 million young people in the workforce under the age of 251, CareerSafe provides online OSHA 10-Hour courses as an OSHA-Authorized Outreach Training Provider. CareerSafe also protects students through their Cyber Safety Awareness training.

CareerSafe launched in 2002 through an alliance between the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), the U.S. Department of Labor-Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Region VI, SkillsUSA, and K2Share. Funding through a Wagner-Peyser 7(b) grant from the Office of the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, along with the supportive cooperation from the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas Education Agency, and the Texas Industrial and Vocational Association established a strong foundation for CareerSafe.  The objective of the program was to provide high school students with pre-employment occupational safety and health training to reduce the exceedingly high injury rate among young workers.

Dr. Larry D. Teverbaugh, CEO of CareerSafe, explains, “Our vision remains to advance and enhance OSHA’s outreach by providing every young worker with workplace safety training prior to taking their first job. To this end, we are committed to offering affordable, informative and innovative online safety training to reach as many young workers as possible.”

CareerSafe will recognize its founding contributors and key supporters during an event in February to promote career and technical education (CTE) month. CTE Month® is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country.
